LiveWell Avery Brings Community Together for Dinner & Dialogue

LiveWell Avery recently hosted a Dinner & Dialogue event at the Avery County Library, bringing together residents, service providers, and community leaders to discuss addiction, recovery, and mental health support. The evening encouraged open conversation, highlighted existing resources, and identified areas for improvement—reinforcing a shared commitment to building a stronger, healthier Avery County through collaboration and community input.

Avery County Opioid Programs Show Strong Mid-Year Impact

Avery County’s FY2025–2026 opioid settlement programs are already making a measurable impact through prevention, treatment, and recovery efforts. From transportation support and reentry services to youth education and addiction treatment, local partners have served dozens of residents, expanded housing and recovery initiatives, and distributed life-saving resources like naloxone. These mid-year progress reports highlight a growing, collaborative effort to strengthen recovery, support families, and build a healthier community across Avery County.

Sheriff’s Office Launches App Video to Boost Community Connection

The Avery County Sheriff’s Office, in partnership with LiveWell Avery, has released a new video to help residents better understand and use the Sheriff’s mobile app. Designed to improve communication and safety, the app gives users quick access to features like tips, alerts, inmate search, and community updates—making it easier than ever for residents to stay informed and connected.

Avery County Invests in Recovery Through Opioid Settlement Grants

Avery County has authorized $215,000 in opioid settlement funding for FY2025–2026, supporting six local organizations working across prevention, treatment, recovery, and early intervention. Guided by a competitive review process and community input, the funding will help expand services like addiction treatment, reentry support, youth programs, and harm reduction efforts—strengthening a coordinated, long-term approach to addressing the opioid crisis across the county.

Summer W.O.W. Wraps Up with Learning and Adventure

The Avery County 4-H Summer W.O.W. Program wrapped up a successful season, giving local youth a summer filled with hands-on learning, field trips, and community service. From exploring local industries to engaging in nature and STEM activities, the program helped build confidence, leadership, and life skills while providing meaningful experiences for children across the county.

Commissioners Review Opioid Funding and Regional Partnerships

At a recent Avery County Commissioners meeting, officials approved a new regional library agreement, addressed budget updates, and reviewed how opioid settlement funds may be used to support recovery, prevention, and community health programs. Local organizations presented funding requests aimed at tackling substance use challenges, expanding services, and strengthening long-term support systems across the county.

Art, Stories, and Chocolate

Art, Stories, and Chocolate brought the Avery County community together for a powerful evening of storytelling, artwork, and connection, highlighting real recovery journeys through creative expression. Hosted by Freedom Life, the event showcased how art and shared experiences can inspire hope, support second chances, and strengthen efforts to break cycles of addiction across the region.

Purple Pantry Launch

A new Purple Pantry in Newland now provides 24/7 access to free, life-saving resources like Narcan, test strips, and recovery support materials. Located at High Country Community Health, this initiative helps reduce barriers, support those affected by substance use, and strengthen the overall well-being of the Avery County community.
